Are Swedish Mail Order Brides Too Frigid?

Like many of you, my image of European women has suffered many distortions over the years, thanks chiefly to the Hollywood movie machine and the legacy of World War II. We all know about the image of racy, footloose French and Italian women, the posh grandeur of Royal British women, and the aloof, mysterious presence of Scandinavian women. There’s that classic image of Greta Garbo: beautiful, but eternally alone, in a tragic, but majestic, world of her own making. Her Stoic grandeur has set the standard for the Western image of Nordic women, and created an impossible stereotype for the average Swedish woman to live up to.

 

As it happens, I’ve always had a fascination with Scandinavia, especially its women. I’ve always yearned for a mysterious, moody, blonde beauty to call my own. It’s been my fantasy to journey to the North lands, and meet such a woman. Of course, the stereotype of such women is that they are simply too aloof for their own good. They’re too independent to ever be “domesticated”. They can never truly love a man because they’re too wrapped up in their tragic, inescapable fate. In short, most American men think all Swedish women are Greta Garbo.

 

Well, it simply isn’t true. Swedish women are some of the warmest, most playful, passionate, loving, and fun women you could ever hope to meet. They are joyful, intelligent, perceptive, and very loyal to the men they love. How do I know this? Because, one day, while I was goofing around on the internet looking at pictures of Scandinavian women, I came upon a site that dealt with Swedish women – mail order brides- who were wishing to meet American men. Of course, I was skeptical: they’d want to come here? They’d want to meet me? Why?

You have to remember, folks, that America is a young land. Sure, we’ve had our troubles lately, but we’re still very much the New World as far as Europe is concerned. And just as Europe is the Old World, you have to realize that they have fantasies and stereotypes regarding Americans. The promise of the American Dream – and the character of the people that embody it- is a strong lure to many Europeans, especially adventurous, liberated women who aren’t afraid to take a chance in a new land, with a strong man they can trust.

So, I decided to take the plunge. I booked my destination with the mail order bride site, and soon found myself in Stockholm. It wasn’t long before I realized what Swedish women were really like: bold, beautiful, exciting, and warm! Kristen came home with me to live, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. It all comes down to this: sometimes you’ve got to go with your heart and let your imagination be your guide.

If you stick to your stereotypes, you simply refuse to grow, and you only harm yourself. Let go, and let your fantasy become reality.
